What is Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)?
LLLT is the application of “cold” pure laser light to treat certain addictions like smoking cessation, weight loss and stress management.

How does LLLT work?

Laser light travels through the skin and is absorbed to stimulate nerve endings at acupuncture points to produce endorphins. The endorphin production from cells addresses the physical withdrawal symptoms of quitting smoking and helps keep you from feeling anxious and irritable. Endorphins are the body’s natural chemical pain suppressor.

Is Low Level Laser Therapy safe?

Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is non-invasive, painless and drug free. It does not burn or cut as surgical lasers do. The FDA has classified low level laser therapy devices as “non-significant risk medical devices”. They pose no apparent health risk to the patient, provided that protective eyewear is worn, and Inclusion/Exclusion criteria are observed in screening patients.

Will This Hurt?

No, LLLT is completely painless. Laser therapy treatment is a non-invasive method used to balance natural chemicals in your body. In fact, the majority of people describe a feeling of being extremely relaxed after treatment.

Where is the laser placed on my body?

The laser is placed on various meridians points on the body depending on the program chosen. For example the ears, face, wrist, hands, feet, elbows and knees.

How long does the laser session take?

The actual treatment can take up to 30 minutes for either Smoking Cessation, Weight Loss and Stress Management program. However your first visit will include meeting with a certified laser technician to go over study documenting and help you develop the support program that’s best for you. You should allow about an hour for this appointment.

What are the benefits to Smoking Cessation?

Within hours, the nicotine levels in your body decrease. Carbon monoxide decreases and the level of oxygen begin to increase to normal.

Within 24 hours, your sense of smell and taste should begin to improve. Your stamina begins to improve and breathing becomes easier with less labor as time progresses into your first week.

Within one week, your circulation improves and your blood pressure and pulse rate begins to decrease. Your chances of having a heart attack have most likely reduced.

Within three months, your lungs start to regrow cilia. Cilia are hair-like tissues that line the inside of your trachea and your bronchial regions. The purpose of the cilia is to remove mucus like material from the lungs. Lung function can increase by up to 30 percent.

In one year, the risk of heart disease has decreased up to 90% in some individuals.

After 10 to 15 years of being smoke free, the risk of getting lung, throat, and tongue cancer is roughly the same as if you have never smoked a cigarette before.

How many laser sessions are required to stop smoking?

Many patients require only one laser session to become smoke-free however some patients to need an additional booster session on the third day. The laser reduces or eliminates the physical craving for nicotine. Even if a client does want to smoke following a laser session, most clients report that their cravings are highly manageable. We truly want you to quit, and we also know that all individuals are not same when it comes to managing stress related issues. That’s why if you slip or are feeling that you need further support, we offer 1 more additional session at no charge over a three month period from initial date of treatment.

What about support after I quit?

We offer counseling and we offer nutritional support. All our staff are ex-smokers so we know what it takes to help you get through the psychological issues. We have tips and tools to support you in break this truly devastating habit. We offer a nutritional program which will also help you get though the stress and urges. Again, we are here to help you.

How many sessions for Weight Loss Management?

The weight management program calls for between 3 and 16 laser sessions on average. The number of sessions will depend upon the targeted goal, based upon a weight loss goal of approximately 5 pounds per month. In initial indications with the same study in Canada and Europe, many clients did well with only 4 treatments for weight loss. The laser sessions will be supplemented with accepted nutritional guidelines and motivational support.

How many sessions for Stress Management?

Each session is based on an individual need basis. We have treated with great success many executives, doctors and mothers who have high levels of stress. They have used our Stress Management program to help them decrease their stress related issues, anxiety and decision making issues. You should feel at ease after the very first session.

Are all the programs doctor supervised?

Yes, all of the programs here at our centers are doctor supervised. All sessions are performed either by the doctor or by our Certified Laser Technicians.

What is an IRB?

Clinical research trials for Smoking Addiction, Weight loss and stress management are conducted under the review of an IRB (Institutional Review Board). An IRB is an organization which overseas the ethical treatment of humans in clinical trials. This information is for research trials. This clinical research trial is approved and is on a fee participation basis.

Does this program diagnose or treat illness?

No, we do not. Our clinic does not diagnose or treat illness, nor do we prescribe medication. Low Level Laser Therapy is not intended to replace medical care. If you are suffering from cancer and you still smoke and you want treatment, please get a release letter from your physician. We recommend that you consult your medical physician for a professional diagnosis of your health.

Are there any contraindicating factors to laser therapy?

Yes, if you are pregnant, have tumors or active cancer, are using photodynamic therapy (radiation), or immunosuppressant drugs (chemotherapy), have a blood clotting disorder, a history of psychological or psychiatric illness, have injected steroids within the past 48 hours, have epilepsy, or a history of eating disorders. NOT treating these particular clients is a precautionary measure. 

Are there corporate programs available? 

Absolutely! More and more employers are sending their employees for the sole purpose of Smoking Cessation. Face it, if your employees smoke, it’s costing your company money on many different levels. It is a fact that employees who smoke are more prone to illness and absenteeism and smoking habits affect an employee’s productivity on the job. An employer’s benefits costs are directly related to their employee’s health: the employee’s health is directly related to their habits, among other things.
